Network Marketing has been around for a very long time. I would go out on a limb here to say that most of your warm market have been involved with some type of home business. It does not matter what the product or opportunity is the idea is still the same. Usually it starts with an invite to some sort of party or home meeting, right? Or maybe the next door neighbor shares a diet cookie with you. How about the dreaded call from your relative that has gotten involved with another one of those Pyramid Schemes.

The concept of being able to work from home and fire your boss has been around for decades. The days of Rich Devos and Jay Van Andle going door to door selling Amway are long gone. Don’t get me wrong, Amway is a great company with great products and still a global opportunity that has billions in sales every year. I am just saying the 3 foot rule style of marketing that Amway introduced is over. For the most part, more on that later.

If it wasn’t for Amway paving the way I don’t think the home business industry would be what it is today. What really needs to change is the idea of making a list of your friends and family when you start your business. This is called your warm market and folks I am here to tell you, it just is not what the doctor ordered when it comes to building your business. With today’s global economy if your not leveraging the internet to markeet you business, well lets say your leaving a lot of money on the table.

Here is the problem with making a list of friends and family. Sure you get started with a product or opportunity and you’re really excited. Your upline gives you a page that has a list of every type of person that you come in contact with on a regular basis. memory jogger, you have one right? Examples of this would be your mail carrier, teachers, friends, family, neighbors, church or other social club friends…etc. Anyone could make a list like that pretty quick and most of us would have a large list.

Great, now we have a list of at least 50 people. Let me show you how quickly this list will fade. Out of those 50 how many actually want to start a business from their home? How many would buy what your selling, and if so how many would buy your product more then twice? What if this was not your first try at a home business? Now some of those on that list are thinking here we go again…right?

I am not saying forget your friends and family, but keep in mind that list your upline wants you to make is not going to build your business.

Today we have the internet. Our market has opened up to everyone that has a computer, an internet connection and desire to make additional income from home. No longer do you have to prospect at the mall, bug your family, mail out expensive fliers or worse yet make cold calls after wasting money with buying leads. When taught proper internet marketing techniques, your phone will be ringing and your email will be full of hungry people raising their hand for help with their business!

This business works when you are taught by someone that does not have an agenda with taking your money. If you already have a company or product you like great, don’t quit. Just stop spending yourself out of business with options that are not working. Become a student of the industry and educate yourself about how this business works. The serious network marketer is always in search of a good MLM business lead. Anyone who has been in the profession for long realizes the difference one strong distributor can make in a downline. Unfortunately, most do not know what makes a good prospect.

In fact, one reason so many new distributors fail is they are told to make presentations to some of the worst MLM business leads – their friends and family. This nearly always leads to rejection after rejection. Soon the excited new business owner is dejected and looking to quit.

If the distributor somehow makes it through that initial disappointment, many sponsors make matters worse by advising them to talk to anyone and everyone. This is often taught as the dreaded “three-foot rule,” which encourages network marketers to talk to everyone that comes within three feet of them. The problem, of course, is that not everyone within three feet is a qualified MLM business lead. Ultimately this leads to more rejection and more dejection.

Often the upline will commit the third strike of bad sponsorship by then encouraging the new distributor to buy leads. You’ll almost never find a solid MLM business lead on such lists. Many such programs are scams that only make money for someone higher in an organization. Anyone encouraging the purchase of leads should be asked if they’re making any money off the program. Anyone with a successful network marketing business shouldn’t need to be in the lead-selling business.

All this is to say that the retention rate in a downline will go up if distributors are trained how to easily recognize a good MLM business lead when they find one. The network marketer’s success rate will go even higher once they learn what to do once they have identified a good prospect. These sponsoring skills will greatly increase the chance of success. While there are no absolute rules for identifying the best leads, there are characteristics that some better than others.

One trait to look for is motivation. If a prospect has a strong reason why they must succeed with a home-based business, they are less likely to quit when disappointment comes. An MLM business lead with an intense desire to accomplish great things and a powerful work ethic will weather the storm and reach his or her goals.

Another desirable characteristic is a coachable attitude. Someone that demonstrates the ability to follow a system and the flexibility to change course when something isn’t working will likely be a good MLM business lead.

People who dream big dreams make some of the best MLM business leads. Show them a simple, achievable way to get what they want in life. Let them see that they can do what’s necessary and that you can help them.

If you really want an MLM business lead that has the greatest promise, find people who are experienced in network marketing, but have not yet found the system that will make them successful. Mentor them. Ultimately, the way to reach your goals is by focusing on helping the others in your group reach their dreams.

You would not begin a new job without understanding your benefits or pay, right? Then why would you invest time and money in an opportunity without reading your contract.

Network marketing recruiting, I actually hate that term, recruiting. Network marketing is about building relationships with people, period. Listen folks, people join people not opportunities. If your upline is telling you need to recruit more people, then you should run…fast. I do not want to be recruited into anything. Start building relationships with people. Learn what their Why is. That’s right; it’s not all about you! If you build people, the people will build the business. Be sure to do your homework prior to conducting any MLM review. Understand what to look for before starting a business. There is more to an opportunity than great products. Heck most MLM companies have great products.

Study the industry; do not just jump on the next business that comes along. Chances are that you’re struggling and lack of success is not your fault. Some companies are designed around the company and not the distributor. Some pay plans are created to keep most of the money in the pockets of the top distributors or back to the company. Level the playing field and research a company that will give you the advantage you need to be successful. Trust me when I say, all opportunities are not created equal.

What happens is that your company’s autoship is so high, if you do not begin to recruit within the first 90 days… your toast. Most people quit their business within 3 months of starting it. trying to recruit your friends and family is a quick way to put yourself out of business fast.

I hope I didn’t hit a nerve when I mentioned the no friends left! I have been there and understand what it means. You begin to look at other opportunities when you have not made any money with yours. It’s hard I know, the internet is a sea of opportunities.

I hope someone has not convinced you to buy leads, because I am here to tell you it does not work. Buying leads for your mlm business opportunity network marketing will be the biggest waste of money and only lead to more frustration. Believe me the last thing you need is something else to add to your budget. That is like throwing money out the window, enough said on that.

Just a couple of things that you should undertand about this industry. Most of the time you do not want to promote your opportunity. I know that does not make sense, but most people already have an opportunity. The last thing they want is to be ‘Sold’ on yours. What they need is help building their business. Provide that value and make a friend for life.

I know what you’re thinking, what do people want? Well they want to learn how to market on the internet. People want to know where the best places are to spend their time and money. Answer that question and provide real value, and you will be heading in the right direction.

Most people find out the hard way that a large percentage of the sites out there are not real business opportunities. Scammers are popping up in record numbers. It is easy to fall prey to someone that understands a little about setting up a web page with pictures of fancy cars, piles of money and lavish homes. Company management is crucial to your success. If the company your involved with is constantly talking about how ethical they are…look out! Take a couple of minutes and do a little research on the management team or owners. Watch for UN-necessary spending, large corporate offices, private jets, limos. This type of wasteful spending could be saved to pay distributors, or lower the price on products.

Understand it does not take alot of time to find home based businesses that work. Just do not let your excitement about a product influence you on your decision. Just because you love the product does not mean the company is one to do business with. If your looking to create additional income from home, do not jump on the first thing you see.
